Formation & Origin
Starehe was formed as a result…..
Starehe connects Nairobi’s Central Business District with surrounding neighbourhoods. Government offices, shops and markets draw workers and traders from across the city, while homes, schools and small businesses make it a place to live as well as work.
Kariokor’s leather workshops link artisans and small enterprises to Nairobi’s wider trade. Starehe NG-CDF says more people are present by day than at night.
That movement shapes demand for transport, sanitation and public space. For voters, the question is whether planning and services work for people who travel into Starehe and the communities who live there.
Starehe is in Nairobi County . It covers 20.6 km² . Its population is 210,423 . It has 169,575 registered voters. The constituency has 6 wards.
Starehe is Constituency No. 289 of Kenya’s 290 constituencies and one of 17 in Nairobi City County. It covers about 20.6 km² and includes Nairobi’s Central Business District. Westlands borders it to the west, Mathare to the north, Kamukunji and Makadara to the east, and Kibra, Lang’ata and Dagoretti South to the south.
Its six county assembly wards are Nairobi Central, Nairobi South, Ngara, Landimawe, Pangani and Ziwani/Kariokor. Starehe’s parliamentary boundary spans parts of both Starehe and Makadara sub-counties, so a census figure for Starehe Sub-County does not represent the full constituency population.
